SPARCS Learning Collaborative

Structured Psychotherapy for Adolescents Responding to Chronic Stress

SPARCS is a group therapy model that was designed to address the needs of chronically traumatized adolescents. Certified SPARCS Clinicians from Kaleidoscope can provide the training and resources for residential clinicians to begin SPARCS at their site.

SPARCS:

  • 16 week group intervention
  • Designed for 6 to 10 participants between the ages of 12 to 19
  • Recommended by DCFS for adolescents living with ongoing stress and trauma.
  • A cognitively-behaviorally oriented curriculum designed to help adolescents build on their strengths and enhance resilience
  • Addresses problems that adolescents experience in daily functioning such as developing positive relationships, numbing and avoidance, affect regulation, disassociation, and somatization

Training sessions comprise four full day trainings. The first two day training covers the initial 8 sessions of SPARCS and is completed before group implementation. The second two day training covers the last 8 sessions of the SPARCS model and is held approximately 6 -8 weeks later. SPARCS is a learning collaborative model designed to promote a partnership for residential clinicians that supports sharing challenges and creative problem solving strategies for successful implementation.

Training includes:

  • Certified SPARCS Clinicians provide clinical group supervision for residential clinicians for one hour twice monthly, for approximately 9 months to 1 year
  • Multi-site consultation calls with group leaders, supervisors and administrators
  • Residential clinicians can apply to become Certified SPARCS Clinicians
