Adolescent Parents Program
Therapeutic Foster Family Care
Located in Blue Island, Therapeutic Family Foster Care provides family living and specialized services to over 60 children and youth each year. Programs are specifically designed to serve children requiring intensive services, also known as “specialized.”
Many of these youth have experienced numerous previous placements, have been institutionalized, have severe mental health needs or multiple disabilities and/or display extreme misbehaviors. These children are placed in foster homes where the parent is extensively trained on how to help this unique population.
Specialized teams include staff social workers, family workers and medical personnel who support the foster parents. These team members have extensive training and experience with children with medically complex needs, make regular visits to the homes and are available around the clock via our 24-hour hotline.
Our staff train foster parents to provide the specialized care, health and emotional, that the children require. Staff also provide ongoing training sessions and continually work with the parents to monitor the child’s progress and problems.
Medically Complex Foster Care
The Medically Complex Foster Care program assists children with complex medical conditions by placing them with foster parents in a caring, loving parent-child environment.
This program began as one of the first pediatric AIDS programs in the nation and the first of its kind in Illinois. While most of our children continue to be infants and toddlers, more of our children are living into adolescence due to recent advances in drug treatment. At any one time, Kaleidoscope serves around 25 children with medically complex cases.
Specialized teams include medical personnel with extensive training and experience with pediatric health issues who support the foster parents.
Adolescent Parents Program
Kaleidoscope’s Adolescent Parents Program offers young parents who are wards of the state the opportunity to learn effective parenting skills and accept responsibility for themselves and their children while they are in a specialized foster care placement.
Foster parents are specially trained to care for both the adolescent parent and baby, and to serve as a role model for the teenager so she can better parent her own child.
